Pima (Akimel O'odham)
The Akimel O'odham, the River People, long called the Pima in English, have farmed the river valleys of the Sonoran Desert for many centuries. Their stories speak of the desert, its plants and its animals.
Today more than thirty thousand people are enrolled in the Gila River and Salt River communities in Arizona, which the Akimel O'odham share with the Maricopa.
