Seneca
The Seneca are the Keepers of the Western Door of the Haudenosaunee (Iroquois) Confederacy. Their stories of the night sky, recorded in the 1880s, explain the stars of the Dipper and the figure on the moon.
Today more than fourteen thousand Seneca people belong to the Seneca Nation and the Tonawanda Seneca Nation in western New York and to the Seneca-Cayuga Nation in Oklahoma.
